When installing the SAP 7.10 GUI and Patch 4, the install program puts an old version of the ini file
in the C:\Windows directory. When using Windows Vista the user cannot modify or overwrite the
existing file. The SAP installer establishes an environment variable that is not completely
established. The following instructions will explain how to finish this process. The user MUST be
an administrator on the local machine. If they are not a local machine admin then this will
not work.
Assuming that the SAP Setup program setup the saplogon.ini file as the old version that
refer to the wrong machine names
1. Open the SAP logon to confirm that the environment variable was setup during installation.
2. Click the upper left corner and choose “Options” from the popup menu

3. The following screen should appear. Make sure there is an item in the list called
“SAPLOGON_INI_FILE”
4. The path for this variable should say “Environment Variable Not Set”.
5. Click Start

6. Type “Accounts” in the Start Menu Search Box
7. Click “User Accounts”
8. If you are prompted for an administrators password or for a confirmation, type the
password, or click “Allow”

9. In the User Accounts Dialog Box, Click “Change My Environment Variables” under tasks

10. In the window that opens click the “New” button in the User Variables for User
11. In the window that opens type “SAPLOGON_INI_FILE” in the top box and in the lower box
type “C:\SAP\saplogon.ini” and click “ok”

12. You will see the new variable in the upper window, click ok to close.

13. Open the SAP logon program to confirm that the variable was setup correctly.

14. Open the options menu to confirm that the Environment Variable was correctly setup. You
should see that the SAPLOGON_INI_FILE item now points to C:\SAP\saplogon.ini
