INTRODUCTION Page 1/2 75-21-11 October 31, 1999 2. international COMPONENT MAINTENANCE MANUAL, 7004M47, 7061M31 DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION . General. The Turbine Clearance Control (TCC) Valve (refer to figure 1) controls the turbine blade-to-shroud clearance during steady-state conditions. It ports either hot (9th stage), cooler (Sth stage), or warm mixed (6th and Sth stage) air to the turbine shroud support rings. Table 1 lists the leading particulars. Description. A. The TCC Valve consists of two butterfly valves and their actuators, three air ports, and three fuel ports. The valve mounts on the engine forward compressor case by the Sth stage air port. It receives Sth stage bleed air through that mounting pad. The 9th stage air is supplied through extemal piping. The third air port supplies 5th and/or 9th stage air to the turbine shroud support rings through external piping. B. The fuel ports are located on the actuator body. They accept 5th (TC1) and oth (TC2) stage hydraulic signals from the main engine control (MEC). During the TCC Timer actuation (if the engine has one), the TCC Valve will also accept timer TSS and TS9 fuel pressure. Also, there is a fuel return (PCR) line to the MEC. . Each actuator has a spring loaded spool assembly and metering plug. Both actuators are normally in the fully retracted position. The actuators are connected to the butterfly valves by a rod and linkage system. D. The Sth stage air valve consists of a butterfly type valve that is closed when the 5th stage actuator is fully retracted. E. The oth stage air valve initially is fully open when the Sth stage actuator is fully retracted and is similar to the 5th stage air valve. F. The 7044M47G07 and 7061M31G04/G05 valves have open and closed stop pins installed in the housing. The pins reduce vibration and weer of the butterfly valves. DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Page 1 75-21-11 October 31, 1999 COMPONENT MAINTENANCE MANUAL ‘7044N47, 7061M31 3. Operation. ‘A. The fuel ported from the TC1 and TC2 valves in the main engine control (MEC) operates the TCC Valve. When the engine speed changes, the MEC provides hydraulic signals to the TCC Valve Sth and Sth stage actuators. The actuators control the butterfly valves. They allow, on a selective basis, Sth and/or Sth stage bleed air to be ported to the turbine shroud support rings. This is done, as required, to keep the necessary turbine blade-to-shroud clearance (refer to figure 2). While the TCC Timer is activated (if the engine has one), the Sth and 9th stage butterfly valves will be controlled by the Timer (TS5 and TSO hydraulic pressures). This will control the turbine blade-to-shroud clearance during take-off conditions, B. The TC1 and TC2 signals are opposed by spring pressure and PCR (MEC case pressure). An orifice in the metering plug of each actuator spool assembly allows the fuel-to flow through the actuators for cooling purposes. The actuator signals are returned to the MEC case through the PCR piping. DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION 75-21-11 ceroner 3 008
