Aerospace Technician
What does an Aerospace
Technician do?
Aerospace Technicians repair, overhaul,
modify and test aircraft engines and
structures as well as mechanical and
hydraulic systems. They inspect aircraft or
aircraft engines and systems following
manufacture, modification, maintenance,
repair and overhaul. Aerospace Techni-
cians troubleshoot aircraft or aircraft
engines and structural, mechanical or
hydraulic systems to identify problems
and adjust and repair systems accord-
ingly. They are also responsible for
performing and documenting routine
maintenance.
Engine Shop Technician, Repair and
Overhaul Technician, Aircraft Mainte-
nance Technician, Quality Inspector and
Final Inspector are some examples of
occupations that are categorized as
Aerospace Technicians.

dexterity. They select, interpret and follow
instructions and procedures well. They
pay close attention to the smallest details.

How do I begin to train
for this position?
To work as an Aerospace Technician,
completion of a recognized post-second-
ary college program in Aircraft Mainte-
nance, Aircraft Gas Turbine Engine Repair
& Overhaul Technology and/or a related
apprenticeship program is required.
Where in PEI can I train to be
an Aerospace Technician?
Holland College offers a 10-month Aircraft
Gas Turbine Engine Repair and Overhaul
Technician certificate program at the
Holland College Aerospace Centre in
Slemon Park. Alternatively, Nova Scotia
Community College offers a 2-year Aircraft
Maintenance Engineer diploma program
at its Akerley Campus and reserves 10
seats each year for PEI students.
