I am beginning to understand Ancient Egyptians because:
I know that the Ancient Egyptians lived a long time ago. I can tell you a little bit about Tutunkhamen and who discovered his tomb. I am able to explain what I know about the appearance of Egyptian people from what I have read and learnt. I can identify how pyramids were used and why they were built. I can extract key pieces of information from a small number of selected sources; I am able to recognise a few similarities and differences between life in Egyptian times and today. I can identify some numbers and letters in hieroglyphics. I can name stages of mummification. I can name some Egyptian Gods. I can recreate models and art which is similar to the Egyptian style. I am developing my understanding of Ancient Egyptians because: I am be able to place the Egyptians in the correct time period, in comparison to other eras I am able to explain where Egypt is located. I am able to explain how important the River Nile was during Egyptian times and some of it’s uses.. I can identify the difference in climate and the affect this has on lifestyle , homes and crops. I can recall how the language of hieroglyphics was discovered. I can write words and numbers in hieroglyphics. I can explain why mummification was important to Ancient Egyptians. I can suggest why the discovery of Tutunkhmanen’s tomb was so important. I am able to create replica models and art examples which show an awareness of the colours and patterns used in Egyptian times. I am mastering my understanding of Ancient Egyptians because: I know the dates of the Egyptian Era and can recall some key names and events. I am able to interpret a wide range of sources of information; I ask a range of appropriate questions to find and extract information about a specific enquiry I am able to suggest why there are different versions of hieroglyphics and symbols for numbers. I understand the importance of mummification for life in the afterlife. I can explain some stories associated with Egyptian Gods and Goddesses. I am able to explain the similarities between the stories about Egyptian Gods and other stories with a similar plot. I am starting to compare what I have learnt about the Egyptians with other societies and times. I can identify my own questions which I would like to answer and set about finding possible answers.
