Chapter 4: “The Mole” Funsheet #2 (why call it a worksheet? That’s so

morbid!)

1. Calculate the volume at STP occupied by the following:

a) 12.5 mol of NH3(g) b) 0.350 mol of O2(g) c) 4.25 mol of HCl(g)

2. Calculate the number of moles contained in the following:

a) 10.6 L of SO2(g) at STP d) 0.120 L of NO2(g) at STP

b) 7.50 x 10 molecules of HNO3e) 5.50 x 1025 molecules of CCl4
21

c) 425 mg of Ca(OH)2

3. Calculate the mass of the following:

a) 0.125 mol of CO2(g) at STP e) 2 x 106 CO molecules

b) 5.48 mol of FeCl3(s) f) 1.25 L of NH3(g) at STP
c) 6.54 x 10-4 mol of HCN(g) at STP g) 1 Ag atom
d) 15.4 mol of Ni(OH)2(s) h) 3.45 mL of O2(g) at STP

4. How many atoms are contained in each of the following?

a) 1.00 mol of NH4Cl d) 12 g of H2O2

b) 8.00 g of Fe e) 55.0 mL of N2O(g) at STP
c) 15.0 L of Ar(g) at STP f) 9.5 x 10-3 g of NH3(g)

5. What volume at STP is occupied by each of the following?

a) 16.5 g AsH3(g)
b) 5.65 x 1022 POF3(g) molecules
c) 9.04 x 1024 atoms of He(g)
d) 28.4 mg of H2Te(g)

6. What is the density of a) CO2 at STP? b) C2H6(g) at STP?

7. How many atoms of N are there in 30.0 g of NH4NO3?

8. The density of CCl4(l) is 1.59 g/mL. How many molecules of CCl4 are there
in 2.50 L of CCl4?

9. If 1.35 L of dipongo has a mass of 1.67 g at STP, what is the molar mass
of dipongo?

10. What is the molar volume of quartz, SiO2? Density = 2.64 g/mL

11. (Challenge) Carbon disulfide, CS2 is a liquid with a density of 1.26 g/mL.
What volume is occupied by 4.50 x 1022 CS2 molecules?

12. (Challenge) What volume of C6H6(l) contains 8.50 x 1024 atoms of C?

(density of C6H6(l) = 0.877 g/mL)

13. I’m not superstitious but some people are! I don’t want to offend anyone
who feels number 13 is unlucky! Although I say it ain’t!!

14. (Challenge) If 250.0 mL of silane at STP has a mass of 0.358 g, what is

the molar mass of silane? If silane is made of silicon and hydrogen
atoms, suggest a molecular formula for silane.
