Before the idea of ‘copyright’ existed, the ideas within Shakespeare’s plays

were up for grabs. Rival playhouses sent ‘spies’ to take notes during
performances so they could use the Bard’s ideas for their own productions.

Task:

For this final project, you will use the plot of Twelfth Night to create your
own version of the play.

Process:

Step 1: Groups of 4-7 people will be assigned

Step 2: As a group, brainstorm the main events of the play
Step 3: Choose a genre for your ‘new’ play – some possible genres
include science fiction, mystery, comedy, spaghetti western, drama (clear
any other genres with your teacher before beginning – a ‘ganster’ version is
not acceptable)
Step 4: Write a script (your play must take no longer than five minutes
to perform, but must include the key elements of plot from Twelfth Night)
Step 5: Rehearse! Rehearse! Rehearse! Your play will be presented in
front of your class. You are encouraged to use costumes, props and sets
Step 6: Perform!
Evaluation:

Your group will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

• Use of class time /10
• Accuracy of plot /10
• Degree of genre integration /10
• Preparedness (memorization of lines etc.) /10
• Presentation (costumes/props, voice projection etc.) /10
