Tobacco Usage
• In FY2010 Georgia spent $3.2 million on tobacco prevention, which is 2.7% of the CDC
Annual Spending Target.1
• The CDC estimates that 48.9% of adult smokers in Georgia tried to quit smoking in 2008.2
• Georgia received $158 million in tobacco settlement payments and taxes in FY2010.3

Excise Tax: There is a tax of $0.37 per pack on cigarettes. Smokeless tobacco products are
taxed 10% of the wholesale price. Cigars are taxed 23% of the wholesale price and there is a
$0.05 tax per single little cigar.10
• Enclosed, separately ventilated areas for smoking are required in all restaurants.
• Establishments are required to post signs stating that sales to minors are prohibited.
