Chemical Resistance of Plastics @ 20° C

Chemical Resistance Classifications

Resin Codes
ACL- acetal (polyoxymethylene)
30 days of constant exposure cause no
Halar ECTFE (ethylene-chlorotrifluoroethylene
ECTFE- damage.. Plastic may even tolerate for
copolymer)
years.
ETFE- Tefzel ETFE (ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene)
FEP- Teflon FEP (fluorinated ethylene propylene) Little or no damage after 30 days of
FLPE- fluorinated high-density polyethylene constant exposure to the reagent.
HDPE- high-density polyethylene
LDPE- low-density polyehylene Some effect after 7 days of constant
PC- polycarbonate exposure to the reagent. Depeding on
PCT- poly (1,4 cyclohexylene dimethylene terephthalate) the plastic, the effect may be crazing,
PET- polyethylene terephthalate cracking, loss of strength or
PFA- Teflon PFA (perfluoroalkoxy) discoloration. Solvents may cause
PMMA- polymethyl methacrylate (acrylic) softening, swelling and permeation
PMP- polymethylpentene ("TPX") losses with LDPE, HDPE, PP, PPCO and
PP- polypropylene PMP. The solvent effects on these five
PPCO- polypropylene copolymer resins are normall reversible; the part
PS- polystyrene will usually return to its normal
PSF- polysulfone condition after evaporation.
PUR- polyurethane
PVC- polyvinyl chloride Not recommended for continuous use.
PVDF- polyvinylidene fluoride Immediate damage may occur.
TFE- Teflon TFE (tetrafluoroethylene) Depending on the plastic, the effect will
TPE- thermoplastic elastome be a more severe crazing, cracking, loss
XLPE- cross-linked high-density polyetheylene of strength, discoloration, deformation,
dissolution, or permetion loss.
