1) The data in the following table shows pressure (P) of oxygen gas kept at 25 °C at different
volumes (V). It is known that relation between pressure and volume at constant temperature is
given by P=aVb. A) Estimate the linear regression equation using least square estimation
method for data (xi,yi), where y=lnP and x=lnV. B) Is the linear regression model
appropriate for the transformed data? C)Using the transformed data determine the point
estimates of the parameters a and b.

3) An important quality characteristic of fruit juice is the concentration of suspended
solid material. The following data are measurements on suspended solids from a
certain fruit juice were obtained. The 99% confidence interval for the mean suspended
solid material is given as [50.3, 58.14] and also assume that the population variance is

a) Find the 20th measurement.

b) Consider also the 20th datum you find on part a, construct two-sided 90 % confidence
interval on the mean suspended solid material
3) In 1990, the mean pH level of the rain in Ankara was 5.03. An environmental engineer
claims that the mean acidity of rain has decreased. (This would mean that the pH level of the
rain has increased). From a random sample of 19 rain in 2006, she obtains the following pH
