We know ,
Φ Pn = 0.85* φ*[ 0.85* ƒc’( Ag - Ast) + fy * Ast ]

For tied column, φ = 0.7,


So, 667 = 0.8*0.7[ 0.85*3*(15*15- Ast) +60 * Ast]
Ast = 9.42 in2

As(min) = 1% of Ag
= 2.25 in2

Provide, 12 #8 bar

So, As ( provide) = 9.48 in2

Bar spacing, S = ( 15 - 3 - 4 ) / 3 in
= 2.6 “

Calculation for (3rd-6th) Floor:

Total axial load for vertical loading = (210+165) k


= 375 k
Combined force = (total vertical load + EQ load)
= 375 k
= Design axial force for column

Combined Moment:
MX = 128 k
MY = 141 k

Calculation of Design axial load for the column C1 (A):

Total axial load for vertical loading = (121.7 +105) k


= 226.7 k
Combined force = (total vertical load + EQ load)
= 226.7 k + 71 k =298 k
= Design axial force for column

Let, the column dimension =12” * 12”

We know ,
Φ Pn = 0.85* φ*[ 0.85* ƒc’( Ag - Ast) + fy * Ast ]

For tied column, φ = 0.7,


So, 298 = 0.8*0.7[ 0.85*3*(12*12- Ast) +60 * Ast]
Ast = 2.87 in2

= Design axial force for column

Let, the column dimension =10” * 10”

We know ,
Φ Pn = 0.85* φ*[ 0.85* ƒc’( Ag - Ast) + fy * Ast ]

For tied column, φ = 0.7,


So, 201 = 0.8*0.7[ 0.85*3*(10*10- Ast) +60 * Ast]
Ast = 1.90 in2

As(min) = 1% of Ag
= 2.25 in2

Bar spacing, S = ( 10 - 3 – 0.75*3 +0 .75 ) / 2 in
