The academic problems faced by the
foreign second intake student in the first
semester studying at University of Malaya
(UM).
1. To understand the academic
problems faced by the foreign
second intake student in the first
semester studying at University of
Malaya.
2. To find out solutions to help them
overcome the academic problems
they face.
1. What are the academic problems that
foreign second intake student faces in the
first semester when studying at University
of Malaya?
2. How does the participant think those
problems can be solved?
-Our participant: Tyas, as a foreign second
intake student, she has experienced the
academic problems while study in UM, and
so she is able to express about her
experience.
-She will be able to come up with more
meaning for suggestions to help the
situation based on her real life experiences.
The place where Tyas studies: Main
Library and Build Environment faculty
• Observation of Tyas’s during the
interviews
• Interview which will be recorded
 regarding to the problems that Tyas
facing on her study.
Techniques of Analyzing Data:
-Expanded field notes for each round
observation.
-Preliminary analysis for each round
interview.

We analysis all the data we get which

include observation and interview and
compose them into a story.

Intervention Plan: We will suggest to our participant Tyas that

she can:
-Joining a Group discussion with her
classmates to help her with the assignment;
-We encourage her to see her Academic
Advisor and also her senior to get help and
information about her study.

Techniques of Validating my Data: 1. By writing stories after every time

1. Observation interview and observations, and analysis all
2. Interviewing the data—observation, interview, document
3. Document Analysis for every round.

After every round we will bring all the data

to our participant for her to confirm the
