JAGUAR CL TECHNICAL BULLETIN

Jaguar is a very early maturing hybrid that produces large, long, and
dark seeded preferred by the in-shell market. This hybrid has above
average stalk and root strength resulting in excellent standability.

PLANTING:

Sunflowers adjust to low populations by increasing seeds per head

and weight per seed and to high populations by decreasing seeds per
head and weight per seed. In confectionary sunflowers one must
lower the population by a certain percentage to increase the seed
size but maintain yield goals. While populations vary between
growing areas, it is generally recommended to plant confections
sunflowers at a population from 10-25% less then oilseeds. The
recommendation for planting confectionary sunflowers is 32125 to
44500 seeds/hectare depending on environment and historical yields.

WEED CONTROL:

Beyond (Imazamox): 4 oz/acre (9.88 oz/hectare). For control of

annual broadleaf weeds including: wild mustard, black nightshade,
marshelder, cocklebur, pigweed, wild sunflower, common
lambsquarter, non ALS resistant kochia and suppression of Canada
thistle. Also for control of grass weeds including: foxtails (green,
yellow, giant), wild oats, volunteer cereals, downy brome, and
suppression of barnyard grass. Beyond will not control ALS resistant
weeds. Application timing is early post emergence between the 2-8
leaf stage. Broadleaf weeds should be less then 3 inches and grasses
should be less then 4-5 leaves. Add NIS at 1 quart per 100 gallons of
water plus UAN (28%) at 2.5 gallons per 100 gallons of water. MSO
and Crop Oil Concentrates are not prohibited but may increase
activity and temporary crop injury.

INSECT CONTROL:

Insect control in sunflowers is based upon field scouting to detect the

insects present and the numbers they are in. Spraying should take
place before the insects hit what is considered the economic
threshold, with numbers varying between insect species. In general
there are two needed spraying per year for optimum yields. The
most timely and effective is praying for head moths is at or around
the R5.1 growth stage, or when pollen shed is just beginning.

DISEASE CONTROL:
Disease control is very much the same as insect control, that
meaning treatment is based upon scouting for disease present and
amount that is present. For top quality sunflowers we recommend a
spraying along with beyond at the 2-8 leaf stage and a following
spraying at the R5.1 stage (when spraying insecticide).
