Course Description

Pre-Algebra will focus on topics that draw together arithmetic and algebra. Many arithmetic topics will be
reinforced such as integer and fraction operations and percents. Other topics will introduce the concepts of
variables, mathematical expressions and equation solving. These concepts will be applied to problems relating
to science, consumer math, geometry and statistics.

Domain Standards

1. Number operations and concepts

2. Geometry
3. Measurement
4. Algebraic concepts and relationships
5. Statistics and probability

Performance Standards

In a problem-solving situation, using appropriate tools and technology, students will apply relationships
between the real number system, geometry, functions, equations and inequalities. Students will make
appropriate use of calculators when necessary to compute and communicate their solutions. Performance
standards will give students grades of “proficient”, “partly proficient”, or “non-proficient”, based on a rubric
score, which will have to be determined from written descriptors.
