Q1 (a) What are the advantages of Laplace Transform in analyzing circuit?

(2 marks)

(b) Find the Laplace Transform for the following function.

f (t ) = sin( t / 4) + 5∫ cos 5t dt
t

N (s )
Q2. (a) Given that H (s ) = K . The expression of H (s ) is called as rational
D (s )
function. N (s ) is an expression of the numerator and D(s ) is an expression of
the denominator. The zero of H (s ) is 0. The poles of H (s ) are -2, -2 and -1.
H (s ) has a gain, K which equals to 4.

(i) Sketch the pole-zero diagrams.

(ii) Express the function H (s ) as a proper rational function.
(iii) What is the output,y(t) if an input of x (t ) = 2e −3t is applied to the
system?

(18 marks)

(b) The switch in Figure 2 has been in position A for a long time and is moved to
position B at t = 0.

Figure 2

(i) Transform the circuit into s domain and solve for IL(s) in symbolic
form.
(ii) Find iL(t) for R1= R2= 500 Ω, L = 250 mH, and C = 4µF and VA=15V.
(iii) Identify the forced and natural response.
