The NCST is located on old railroad grade between Gaylord and
Michigan DNR Announces Partial Closure of North Central Mackinaw City, and was improved with a new limestone surface in 2007.
State Trail in Cheboygan County The water rose over the former grade in several locations, but washed
out just two locations. The majority of the compacted limestone trail
surface remained in place after the flood waters went down.

Repairs will be completed by DNR staff, and the trail will be reopened as
soon as possible. In the meantime, the DNR appreciates the public’s
cooperation with respect to the barriers on the closed trail segments.
Trail users are encouraged to use the NCST trail portions not affected by
the rain.

Association (NTA) home grounds, concluded this past Saturday with
senior high handicap competition and the presentation of the
Cornhusker Cup to the overall winner.

There are 1,216 shooters competing in the senior high division.

The Cornhusker Trapshoot is hosted by the Nebraska Game and Parks

Commission and the NTA.

Now the 15-year-old sophomore is a veteran in her fifth season Veteran Outdoors’ Sophomore
competing at the 42nd Cornhusker Trapshoot. On Friday she shot an

learned as a decorated member of the U.S. Marine Corps.
“She has natural talent,” he said. “She doesn’t have any bad
habits. She just doesn’t miss.”

Sorahan didn’t miss much last year when she finished second in the 20-
21 yard individual handicap division at the Cornhusker Trapshoot.

On that night back in the fourth grade, Sorahan won in a drawing a

membership into the Ducks Unlimited Green Wings program for youth
shooters. That’s when Wiese took her under his wing.

Sorahan didn’t care that there were few girls her age shooting. “It’s
something a lot of girls didn’t do at the time, so it was something, like the
boys, I could do,” she said.

“It’s not about winning; it’s about shooting against people
and making them think they have to be better than you.”

Sorahan has a lifetime of trapshooting to look forward to now.

“That’s another reason that I like to shoot trap,” she said.

“You can’t play basketball your whole life, but you can shoot
your whole life.”

“Boys and girls of all ages are taking up shooting sports as a

make it, so we just wanted to honor them by continuing the
freedoms we fought for.”

Higgins and Cody Hirt, another co-founder of VO, witnessed the effects
of the outings and began finding more injured veterans to benefit. The
inherent qualities of outdoor recreation and the camaraderie found on National Shooting Sports Foundation

Washington, DC --(Ammoland.com)- The University of Kentucky has
fired a graduate student and former anesthesia technician, Michael
Mitchell, for keeping a gun in his car a mile away from the university
hospital where he was employed.
The university then proceeded to try to deny Mitchell unemployment
compensation by claiming, unsuccessfully, that he was fired for
misconduct. A hearing officer found against the University of Kentucky

and in favor of Mitchell.
All this, despite the fact that Mitchell had a Kentucky concealed carry
permit, believed he had fully complied with Kentucky law governing
concealed carry, and therefore cooperated fully with police and
university authorities.
And finally, Kentucky Revised Statutes sec. 27.020 seems to prevent a
state institution like the University of Kentucky from interfering with the
Second Amendment rights of a concealed carry permit holder. That
section holds, in part, that “[n]o person or organization, public or
private, shall prohibit” a concealed carry permit holder from
transporting a firearm in his vehicle in accordance with law.
So……. What’s up with the University of Kentucky?
The answer is that it’s probably not much different from many Left-
leaning universities. After all, Virginia Tech fought hard and successfully
to keep guns off its campus – nearly a year, to the day, before a crazed
gunman killed 31 people on that campus.
Mitchell appealed a ruling from Fayette Circuit Court Judge Pamela
Goodwine, who dismissed his suit against the University of Kentucky
because its anti-gun animus “was not a violation of public policy.”
Judge Goodwine claims to have read U.S. Supreme Court language
concerning “exceptions” to the Second Amendment. This language is
called “dictum” and is non-binding.
But Goodwine seems to have missed the point of the Supreme Court’s
decision in Heller: Americans have a constitutional right to use firearms
to defend themselves.
Kentucky concealed carry permit holders aren’t a problem in America.

Mitchell appealed directly to the Kentucky Supreme Court, which voted
5-2 to hear his appeal. A win in this lawsuit will end the illegal and
discriminatory practice on the university.

opening day this spring should note a new opening time of noon.

Management Areas There are three wildlife management areas in west-central Montana that
are antler-hunting destinations with regularly scheduled openings on
May 15: Blackfoot-Clearwater near Seeley Lake, Threemile in the
Bitterroot Valley and Spotted Dog near Garrison.

Some of these WMAs have traditionally opened at midnight on May 15,

but the FWP Commission recently enacted regulations that require all
Montana WMAs with winter closures to reopen at noon to help with
consistency and public safety.

Dave Dziak, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Region 2 WMA manager,
noted that even after these areas open, some roads are likely to remain
closed until muddy road conditions improve.

Some Montana WMAs are open year-round, but many are closed during
the winter months to protect wildlife from disturbance on their winter
range. In addition to these three antler-hunting destinations, several

PARK CITY, Kent. --(Ammoland.com)- Like Yogi Berra so famously
said, “It’s like déjà vu all over again.” Kentucky’s month-long deluge of
severe thunderstorms and torrential rains left its final mark on the 2011
DPMS-Bushnell Blue Ridge Mountain 3-Gun at the Rockcastle Shooting
Center here Sunday, as the final two stages were scrapped due to
inclement weather.
While rain had soaked the course in the days and weeks prior to the
event, the weather broke for two spectacular shooting days on Friday and

Saturday before the final downpour Sunday morning.
Last year’s Blue Ridge Mountain was also shortened due to inclement
weather, to the point no winners were declared.
However, the entire field had shot at least eight of ten stages this year, so
scores were normalized and it was U.S. AMU’s Daniel Horner that
emerged for the overall and Tactical Optics victory. For Horner, the win
comes on the heels of a 2nd place finish at Superstition. The Blue Ridge
win, a nearly 90-point victory over eight stages, emphatically stated that
Horner (770.5103) is the most dominating shooter in the sport on
natural terrain courses of fire, and possibly any type of stage design.
Remington’s Robby Johnson (683.9144) took second in Tactical Optics,
followed by Noveske’s Rob Romero (673.5116), Rustin Bernskoetter
(662.9975) and Caspian’s Bruce Piatt (647.1356).
In Open, Clint Upchurch continued his remarkable run, winning his
fourth consecutive division title by holding off a strong performance by
SureFire’s Mike Voigt (742.8257). While Voigt won four of the eight
stages, a slip on stage two’s long-range rifle steel arguably decided the
match, as Upchurch’s lead on stage two mirrored his overall point lead
over Voigt.
DPMS’ James Darst (701.1839) narrowly edged out Don Bednorz
(694.4393), while Team Rockcastle’s Tony Holmes (675.4203) took fifth.
In Tactical Irons, Kelly Neal (761.7459) picked up his 2nd consecutive
division win by a comfortable margin. James Casanova (702.677) placed
second, followed by Brian McKibben (693.6945), Hornady’s Jeff
Cramblit (690.4002) and Spike Tactical’s Cameron Thompson
(596.9331).
Heavy Metal saw an interesting battle as SureFire’s Barry Dueck
(782.3063) jumped divisions from Heavy Metal Optics (not recognized
at Blue Ridge) and cruised to his first division win since last Fall’s Ozark
match. Upstart Bryan Ray (693.0936) placed second, followed by Joe
Satterfield (663.663), Maurice Griffin (649.8307) and J.J. Johnson
(614.9773).
Horner’s win will vault the Army shooter up the 3GN leader board from
17th place all the way to 2nd behind Upchurch, who remains the only
competitor with a perfect score of 300. However, with Horner’s second
win, it seems only a matter of time before he joins Upchurch atop the
3GN standings.
The next event on the 2011 FNH USA 3-Gun Nation Tour, Presented by
SureFire, is the MGM Ironman, June 5-11 in Parma, Idaho. A 3GN
Shoot-Off and 3GN Points event, Ironman will be the 5th of 10 3GN Tour
events this season.

recognized Indian tribal governments, including Alaska Native Villages,

wildlife and their habitat, including species of Native American cultural

The Tribal Wildlife Grant (TWG) program supports projects that develop
or augment tribal capacity to manage, conserve, or protect fish and

Grant program at $8,000,000, a $1,000,000 increase from the FY 2011

Anniversary Photo Contest.
Cool monthly prizes, including a $50 gift card and NSSF’s official
anniversary history publication, are part of this fun, interactive contest.
Each month beginning in May NSSF will announce a theme connected
with its 50-year history and invite people to post photographs related to
that theme. To post a photo, look for the Contests tab on NSSF’s

Photos may be posted during the first three weeks of each month, with
the last week devoted to voting for the winners. At the end of the month,
the ten photos with the most votes will be declared winners, and

voter-getter each month will receive a $50 gift card from a major

Covington VA --(Ammoland.com)- I have been doing a bit of research
on Bloomberg’s group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns.
They claim a membership of 593 mayors. Of these, 399 (over 67%!) are
in only four states – New Jersey (40), New York (108), Ohio (71) and
Pennsylvania(180). If you throw in California (21) and Florida (36), they
account for 456 (over 76%) of their alleged membership.
There are approximately 8,291 mayors, nationally, of localities with over
30,000 citizens. Even disregarding the fact that a fair number of
Bloomberg’s group are not even included in that count, due to small
constituencies, this means that fewer than 7.2% of the nation’s mayors
agree with his goals and methods enough to allow themselves to be
counted among his supporters.
The vast majority of states, 37, or 74% (see table below) could produce
only 5 or fewer members, from the many hundreds of mayors in each
state. In fact, they could not persuade a SINGLE mayor in 12 states to
join in their conspiracy to subvert the Constitution (see table below).
I am saddened to see that they were able to dupe 9 of our own Virginia
mayors. [PVC: Virginia does have some less-than-stellar Mayors. The
members of Bloomberg’s coalition should be on every gun owner’s list
to get unelected.]
