Dear Attorney General Schuette:

I am referring an important matter to you on behalf of the people of Oakland County.

I believe that we have uncovered a serious pattern of document fraud on the part of numerous national financial institutions. I ask that you determine an appropriate course of action.

As Register of Deeds of Oakland County I have been investigating whether fraudulent Assignments of Mortgage have been recorded in this office. This investigation was prompted by a recent 60 Minutes program which reported wide-spread forgery of mortgage documents prepared at the direction of some of the largest financial institutions in this country.

One young man who was interviewed by 60 Minutes said he was paid $10 an hour by DOCx, a company created by major banks, to sign up to 350 documents an hour or 4,000 a day with "signatures" of fictitious bank officials.

One name favored by this company was "Linda Green." The witness further stated he signed Linda Green as an officer of five to six banks daily. That is where I started my investigation. So far I have uncovered five signatures of a "Linda Green" on Assignments of Mortgages recorded in Oakland County in 2008 and 2009.

I have also reviewed numerous other mortgage assignments whose bank officers' signatures vary widely from signature to signature leading me to suspect forgery. I am enclosing copies of these recorded documents with this letter. My review of over 12,000 recorded Assignments of Mortgages in 2010 is ongoing.

Based on this information I am asking that you join with me and other Registers of Deeds across Michigan in taking action against any financial institutions who have participated in this fraudulent criminal activity.

As I have indicated, my investigation is ongoing and I will continue to report to you additional cases of suspected fraud. Please let me know what further action I can take to be of assistance to you as you seek to remedy the injustices which have been perpetrated by these financial institutions.
