SYE222 Team Project

Spring 2011

As your team project, please solve the case study titled “Assigning Students to Schools”
and answer the questions provided within the case.

As you are doing your team project, you should follow the 7-step procedure for model
building that we covered in class. You should also document the work you have done in
each of these 7 steps in your project report. In addition to these steps, the project report
should at minimum include the following information:
1. Modeling assumptions
2. Algebraic formulation of all models used in the project
3. Excel model(s) used in the project
4. GAMS model(s) used in the project
5. Summary of all model results obtained (NOT the Excel/GAMS output, results
presented in a easy to understand, user-friendly format)
6. Answers to the questions at the end of the case.

Prepare a professional report that details all project work and submit a hard copy of this
report along with a CD that contains the models and data by 11 am on May 13, 2011.
Late submissions will be penalized and may not be accepted at all. In preparing your
report, please make sure to follow the Project Report Guidelines distributed separately.
You can also find the guidelines to be used in grading the projects in the Project
Evaluation Criteria document.

If you have any questions about this project, please consult with me or Melis Almula
Karadayı. Discussing the project with anyone else will be considered cheating.

IMPORTANT: A project report should contain working models in both Excel Solver
and GAMS that yield the same solution in order to be graded.
