Comments/Recommendations:
During our math time this summer, we used games, activities, and computers to look at math in a new way. We
talked about fractions through many different card games to cover equivalent fractions, LCD, ordering
fractions, and operations with fractions. We also looked at ratios, proportions, and map scales by digging into
some regional maps to find distances between places on a map and their actual distance. Another topic we
covered was percents and decimals by “going out to eat at Applebee’s” and figuring out our bill with the tax,
tip, and the total cost. Fractions, ratios, and percents are only a few of the topics we were able to investigate
this summer. We also covered integers, order of operations, exponents, equations and expressions, measures of
central tendency, and different types of angles. We also had a running competition between the classes to see
which class could turn in the most correctly answered weekly problems. The problems were designed to
challenge each student.
