The variable inductance transducers work generally upon of the
following three principals
(i) Change of self inductance
(ii) Change of mutual inductance
(iii) Production of eddy current

° T are an acronym for inear ariable ifferential
Transformer
A electromechanical transducer that can convert the
rectilinear motion of an object to which it is coupled
mechanically into a corresponding electrical signal
T linear position sensors are readily available that can
measure movements as small as a few millionths of an inch up
to several inchs

Ä High Range: the Ts has a very high range for
measurement of displacement This can be used for
measurement of displacement ranging from Ä mm to
 mm
 riction and Electrical Isolation:
3 Immunity from External Effects
4 High input and high sensitivity:
Ruggedness: The transducer can usually tolerate high degree of
shock and vibration
 ow Hysteresis
7 ow Power consumptionm
isadvantage of T:
Ä Relatively large displacement are required for appreciable
differential output
They are sensitivity to stray magnetic fields but shielding is
possible
3 any times, the transducer performance is affected by
vibrations
4 The receiving instrument must be selected to operate on a c
signal
The dynamic response is limited mechanically by the mass of
the core and electrically by frequency of applied voltage The
frequency of the carrier of the carrier should be atleast ten times
the highest frequency component to be measured
 Temperature affects the performance
Ëse of Ts

The output voltage of a T is Ä at maximum
displacement
At a load of , The deviation from
linearity is maximum and it is 3 from straight line
through origin ind the linearity at the given load

 age linearity = ( 3 /Ä) ×Ä =

The output of an T is connected to a voltmeter
through an amplifier whose amplification factor is
