Bolivar High School Attendance Policy Summary 

• All students are expected to make every reasonable effort to attend school every day school is in session. 
• The highest academic achievement occurs when students are present in the learning environment. 
• Bolivar High School has set high attendance standards for our students. 
• All students must complete each semester with 95% attendance or higher. 
• Extraordinary circumstances will be reviewed by an Attendance Committee upon appeal. 
• Students who fall below 95% attendance for a semester will be notified via letter to student and parent/guardian. 
• Students will have the opportunity to rectify their semester attendance through “Attendance School.” 
• Students who fall below 95% attendance for a semester will receive “Incomplete” grades for the semester. 
• Upon making up the required time, student grades will then reflect the grades earned for the semester. 
• Fall semester attendance must be made up no later than the last day of school of the following spring semester. 
• Spring semester attendance must be made up no later than the last day of school of the following fall semester. 
• Seniors must complete all make up time before receiving their diploma (assuming all other graduation requirements 
have been met). 
 
Frequently Asked Questions… 
 
• How do I know how much make up time I need before the end of the semester? 
Via the student/parent portal, click on the Attendance tab.  Add the ‘A’, ‘V’ and ‘E’ attendance markings together.  Next, 
subtract ‘18’ from your total.  If a positive number remains, this is the number of class periods you have missed that need 
to be made up.  Calculation:  Add  A + V + E.   Subtract 18 from this number.  If the remaining number is positive, multiply it 
by 1.3.  This is the number of hours of make up time you need to complete. 
 
• Explain make up time…what, where, how, etc.? 
Most Wednesday (Late Start) mornings in room 302 from 7:30 to 9:00am (must arrive on time). 
Most Friday afternoons from 3:10 to 6:00pm (Friday School Teacher Supervises). 
Visit the Attendance Office and pick up an Attendance Make Up Time Log. 
The supervising BHS teacher will sign your log each time you attend. 
When your hours are complete, submit your log to the Attendance Office for Mr. Owens to review. 
 
• Can I begin to log make up time during the semester, or even before I miss more than 18 class periods? 
Yes! 
 
• What can/can’t I do during make up time? 
Bring homework/study/reading materials with you!  Make up time is designed to be academic in nature.  Students are not 
allowed to use cell phones or iPods nor are they allowed to eat/drink or rest/sleep while logging make up time.
