Maximum Load current for G1 (I) =1800*103/

(1.732*400)

=2598 A

Maximum Load current for G2 & G3 (I) =1000*103/

(1.732*400)

=1444 A

Maximum current carrying capacity of the 630mm2

Cable (when laid flat, with no degrading factors) =733 A

Calculation for the existing layout

For G1
Three numbers of circuits are used.

Therefore, the maximum current should carry though one cable =2598 A/3
=866 A
Maximum current the cable is capable to carry after degrading
Factors =733*0.93(Ground temp.)*
0.97(Thermal resistivity)*
0.75(Grouping factor)
=496 A (<866 A)
For G2 & G3
Two numbers of circuits are used

Therefore, the maximum current should carry though one cable =1444 A/2
=722 A
Maximum current the cable is capable to carry after degrading
Factors =733*0.93(Ground temp.)
*0.97(Thermal resistivity)
*0.8(Grouping factor)
=529 A (<722 A)

• Grouping factors have selected using both horizontal and vertical circuits

Voltage drop Calculation

Voltage drop for 630mm2 single core Cu cable =0.163

mV/A/m
Allowable voltage drop =16 V (400*0.04)
Therefore,
Available voltage drop of the cable of G1 =0.163 * 866*70
=9.88 V (< 16V)
Available voltage drop of the cable of G2 & G3 =0.163 *
722*70
=9.88 V (< 16V)
If trefoil formation is used

Maximum Current capable to carry without any degrading

factors considered =789 A

For G1
Maximum current the cable is capable to carry after degrading
Factors =789*0.93(Ground temp.)
*0.97(Thermal resistivity)
*0.78(Grouping factor)
=555.17 A (<866 A)

For G1
Maximum current the cable is capable to carry after degrading
Factors =789*0.93(Ground temp.)
*0.97(Thermal resistivity)
*0.8(Grouping factor)
=569 A (<722 A)

Therefore, trefoil formation also doesn’t fit to maintain existing layout.

Proposed layout

For G1

5 no. of ccts are used in trefoil formation with 0.5m spacing

Therefore, the maximum current should carry though one cable =2598 A/5
=520 A

Maximum current the cable is capable to carry after degrading

Factors =789*0.93(Ground temp.)
*0.97(Thermal resistivity)
*0.75(Grouping factor)
=534 A (>520 A)
For G2 & G3

3 no. of circuits are flat laid with 0.5m spacing

Therefore, the maximum current should carry though one cable =1444 A/3
=482 A

Maximum current the cable is capable to carry after degrading

Factors =789*0.93(Ground temp.)
*0.97(Thermal resistivity)
*0.73(Grouping factor)
=483 A (>482 A)
