    This document discusses different types of DC generators and their applications. Series generators are used to boost arc lighting and incandescent lighting, and for regenerative braking in DC locomotives. Shunt generators with field regulators are used for ordinary lighting and power supply due to their almost constant terminal voltages, such as for charging batteries. Compound generators are used as power supplies where large loads are suddenly turned on and off.

    Generators
    1) Seperately excited generators: they are used where quicker and more precise response is required by changing field resistance in speed control.They are used in Ward Leonard system of speed control. 2) Series generators are used as boosters for series arc lightning and incandescent lighting. They are also used in d.c locomotive for regenerative braking. 3) Shunt generators with field regulators are used for ordinary lightning and power supply purposes. As their terminal voltages are almost constant they are also used for charging batteries . 4) Compound generators are used as power supply purposes and for those places where a large load is suddenly thrown on and off .
