Emulsifying Wax

EMUSIFYING WAX
These are wax like solids with emulsifying properties. They are chiefly used in the preparation of ointments and creams. They include Emulsifying wax B.P.(ANIONIC), Cetomacrogal Emulsifying wax B.P. (NON-IONIC) and Cetrimide emulsifying wax B.P.(CATIONIC).

COMPOSITION of EMUSIFYING WAX (Anionic Emulsifying Wax)


Emulsifying wax B.P. (Anionic) Formula 1. Cetostearyl alcohol ---- --90 g. 2. Sodium Lauryl sulfate ---10g 3. Distilled water -------- -----4ml METHOD Melt the cetostearyl alcohol and heat to 95 Celsius. add Sodium Lauryl sulfate (SLS). Mix them thoroughly and finally add distilled water. Heat to 115 o C. stirring vigorously until frothing cease and product is translucent cool quickly. USES It is used as an emulsifying agent in the preparation of oil in water creams. Such creams are stable over a wide pH range and suitable for the incorporation of anionic and non-ionic medicaments.

Cetrimide Emulsifying Wax B.P.(Cationic)


Cetrimide Emulsifying wax B.P.(Cationic) Formula 1. Cetostearyl alcohol ------90g. 2. Cetrimide -----------------10g. METHOD Melt the cetostearyl alcohol with the aid of gentle heat, add the Cetrimide to the melt with constant stirring. Cool quickly
USES It is used as an emulsifying agent in the preparation of oil in water creams. Such creams are stable over a wide pH range and suitable for the incorporation of anionic, cationic, and non-ionic medicaments.

Cetomacrogal Emulsifying Wax (Non Ionic)


Cetomacrogal Emulsifying wax B.P.(Cationic) FORMULA 1. Cetomacrogol-1000-------20g. 2. Cetostearyl alcohol ------80g. METHOD Melt the cetostearyl alcohol and Cetomacrogal together with the aid of gentle heat and stirring. Cool USES It is used as an emulsifying agent in the preparation of oil in water creams. Such creams are stable over a wide pH range and suitable for the incorporation of anionic, cationic, and non-ionic medicaments.
