Practical No:2 Abstract:

The yarn count expresses the thickness of the yarn, and must be known before calculating the quantity of yarns for a known length of fabric. The yarn count number indicates the length of yarn in relation to the weight.

Objective:
To calculate the count of given samples of lap, sliver, roving and yarn.

Equipment:
wooden temp late warp drum warp reel weight balance
(for the preparing the lap samples). (for preparing the samples of sliver and roving). (for preparing the samples of yarn). (for calculating the weight of samples).

Procedure:
Three samples for each category were taken as under: For lap: 1 yard For sliver: 6 yard For roving: 15 yard For yarn: 120 yard Samples were weighed on a weight balance. Average weight was calculated for each of above. Weight was converted into number of yards per pound as under: Weight in grams / 453.6*no. of yards = yards per pound Count was calculated by definition as under: No. of yards per pound / 840 = hanks per pound (unit of count ) Count calculated above was verified by formula 8.33 * length in yards / weight in grains

Observations and Calculations:
