A. Search for the brief history of database

Database is a collection of information and a means to manipulate data in a useful way, which must provide proper storage for large amounts of data, easy and fast access and facilitate the processing of data. Data are raw facts that constitute building blocks of information. Database Management System (DBMS) is a set of software that is used to define, store, manipulate and control the data in a database. From prestage flat-file system, to relational and object-relational systems, database technology has gone through several generations and its 40 years history.

B. Make inquiries for other database software aside from MS Access. Discuss their advantages and disadvantages

Dataphor - is an open source truly relational database management system (RDBMS) and its accompanying user interface technologies, which together are designed to provide highly declarative software application development.

ElevateDB - supports most of the ANSISQL: 2003 standard with minimal deviations, and includes support for dynamic SQL/PSM in scripts, stored procedures/functions, triggers, and jobs. DataEase - is an RDBMS, and is considered a rapid application development tool for developing relationally-organized, dataintensive software applications for personal computers.
