Best of Two Worlds
I've started an initiative on the web which blends together the best of letter writing and writing content for the web. I call the initiative "Hover," and the letters/posts I'll be writing are called Hovernotes. Hovernotes are written in the letter style, but can be addressed to as broad or as narrow of an audience that you'd like. In that way, they are a lot like Press Releases, only a lot more personal. A Hovernote can convey information, tell a story, contain an apology, or be an expression of thanks. I've also been thinking about experimenting with the style by writing to inanimate objects, fictional people, etc. I think that there is a lot of potential. Hover is a part of my effort to perfect a process I like to call "Web Content without Borders." That means that I am experimenting with ways to publish a piece of content without tying it directly to only one network, service, or website. So, each Hovernote starts out as its own document, and as its audience becomes broader it is converted and redistributed in different formats. Want to learn more? Post a comment below, or check out the community I've started at http://frid.ge/hovernotes. Or, take a look at the Hovernote version of this post here.
