Horn Amputation

History
  

Horn was shaky. Foul smelling purulent discharge Discharge from nostrils were also noticed

      

Clinical Sign: (2nd stage) Animal was active and alert Horn was shaky and tilted Striking the head against hard objects Asymmetry of horn Blood tinged discharge from right side nostril Base of horn was found soft, hot and painful Dull sound on percussion was observed

SURGICAL PROCEDURE

Preparation of site: Site was shaved and scrubbed with betadine scrub.

Preparation of surgical set: With following sterile procedure set was prepared.

Local anesthesia was given to cornual nerve

Cornual nerve block: 10ml Lignocaine HCl was injected at the site (below the base of the horn) Ring block: 30ml local anaestheic was injected at the periphery around the base of the horn.

Long elliptical incision was given at base of horn

Cauliflower like growth

Preoperative medication:Inj. Enrostrong PZ 10 ml i/v Inj. Meloxicam 10ml i/v

Operative procedure:- Flap was made accordingly availability of the skin for proper apposition. - Blood vessels was ligated . - Wound was washed with antiseptic solution to remove debris and pus. - Skin was sutured with nylon thread in horizontal mattress manner. - Tr.benzoin was applied at the operative site.

Post operative management:-Care taker was advised for regular dressing , antibiotic and pain killer for five days.
