Represents the mental process of considering various instructional alternatives and deciding on one or several approaches for teaching.

1. Mental process

Occur during summer months, driving to school, during lunch, after school, and on weekends.
2. Cognitive monitoring

Occur during planning, instructing and interacting with students, listening to students, and evaluating instruction.
