Dear Ms Dugdale I am writing in response to your letter dated 9th June 2011. For year 2010 to 2011 the percentage of students disclosing a disability on enrolment at the College was as follows: 0.3 % blind or partially sighted 0.6% deaf or hearing impaired 3.4% dyslexia 2.8% mental health 0.9% multiple disabilities 2.7% unseen disabilities 0.5% wheelchair user 1.6% disability not listed. The College does not have assisted places for students with disabilities but we have a number of supported courses. However many of our disabled students attend our main stream courses. The only part of the College which cannot be accessed by a wheelchair user is the control room in our television studio. We have had an application from a student who was a wheelchair user for that course but ill health prevented them accepting their place. The costs of providing access to that area would be high and would either involve the installation of a lift which would affect teaching space, or , substantial structural change, given'the positioning of the control room. The College does not have Disability Champion as such but w~ do have an Access and Inclusion Coordinator, and a large Student Services Department, which includes a Student Support Team. Most of our teaching faculties also have a teaching member of staff designated as a Faculty Inclusiveness Representative.
