IMPULSE RADIO BASED UWB COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

An Ultra Wide Band signal, by definition is the one that occupies at least 25% of the center frequency or having 500MHz bandwidth, whichever is more. In February 2002 Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the United States allocated a spectrum of 7.5 GHz (from 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz) for unlicensed commercial communications use. Since then UWB has gained wide engineering interest and the IEEE 802.15 task group specialised in WPAN is considering impulse radio based UWB for Wireless Personal Area Networks. Impulse Radio (IR) techniques for UWB make use of sub-nano second pulses for transmission so as to effectively utilise the available bandwidth. Two different modulation schemes:-Time Hopping IR and Direct Sequence IR are employed. Effects of channel multipath, various sources of interference and receiving mechanisms will be considered.
