Re: MAC’s amendments to the Eastern Neighborhoods Plan

Honorable Supervisor ___________,

I sign this letter in support of the Mission Anti-Displacement Coalition’s (MAC’s) proposed amendments to
the Eastern Neighborhoods (EN) Plan. The Mission District is where working families from diverse
backgrounds call home. It is a community with vibrant local-serving commercial corridors and is brimming
with cultural assets. As such, the Eastern Neighborhoods Plan should prioritize the concerns of residents over
developers.

I support MAC’s amendments to the Eastern Neighborhoods Plan to:

• Increase the number of family sized affordable housing units on our commercial corridors (Mission,
Valencia, 24th Streets) by requiring 30% inclusionary housing for all market-rate projects (e.g. for
sale units would be affordable to families earning under $82, 900, and rental units would be
affordable to families earning under $49,750);
• Reverse family flight by requiring 100% affordable housing for building sites over 10,000 square feet
(e.g. 17th & Folsom);
• Establish a strong, well funded acquisition and rehab program to preserve smaller rent controlled
buildings on our commercial corridors;
• Protect safety-net housing for low-income people by eliminating market-rate Single Room Occupancy
Hotels
• Strengthen the character and economic diversity of our commercial corridors by maintaining heights
of 45 to 55 feet, to reduce incentives for speculators to evict community serving businesses to develop
luxury condos;

• Strengthen community control by requiring public input for determining building heights and the
types of businesses that can locate in the Mission (i.e. bars, clubs and hostels);
• Retain and attract blue-collar jobs opportunities in the city by protecting light industrial businesses
from being converted to luxury condos and office space, and require that new companies hire local
workers.

I oppose the current EN Plan passed by the Planning Commission because it will continue the exodus of
families and locally owned businesses from the Mission. I urge you to help solve the crisis faced by
moderate and low-income San Francisco families with children by supporting the amendments of the
Mission Anti-Displacement Coalition.

Sincerely,

I Support the People’s Plan 2008
