Supplemental Course Policies English 1301.59 and 1301.62 Thursday 9:30 and 11 am Ms. Weems (hannah.weems@ttu.

edu) Office Hours: English 417, Monday 2-3:30, Tuesday 12:30-2, and by appointment. In addition to this information, students must also read and follow the policies in the First Year Writing textbook. You will find these policies in "Course Overviews" located on pages xix-xxvii of your textbook. Attendance: We only meet as a class once a week; therefore, it is critical that you be present for every class period. At the beginning of class, I will pass around the roster for you to sign-in. You will be counted tardy one minute after class begins. Fifteen minutes after class starts, I will close and lock the door. At that point, you will be counted absent even if you arrive later during the class period. If you are tardy, it is your responsibility to sign-in on a sheet at my desk (separate from the sign-in roster). You should never leave the room early unless I have dismissed the class or you have spoken to me previously about special situation. If you leave early without discussing it with me, you will be counted absent. You are allowed two absences per semester before your grade is affected (This is University Policy). Any absence after the first two will result in a 5% reduction per absence in your final grade. Participation: Participation is the easiest way to improve you grade in this class. It will be determined by the following items: - Attendance - Involvement in class discussions - Actively working in a small group in class - Pop quizzes over reading - Other in-class writing or revision assignments Classroom Behavior: As college students I expect you to treat each other, myself, and school property with respect. Unacceptable activities include but are not limited to: texting or talking on cell phones, sleeping in class, and interrupting myself or other students when speaking. Technology: Laptops, cell phones, iPods, etc. can serve as a harmful distraction and are therefore not allowed in my classroom. If you have one of these items with you, please turn it on silent and leave it inside your backpack for the entirety of the class period. Correspondence: Please do not hesitate to email me or come by my office hours if you have any question or concerns throughout the semester.
