CHILAIDITIS SYNDROME

Predisposing Age Sex- male

Precipitating: May occur in healthy individuals maybe due to abnormal elongation of the colon

Diaphragm separates chest cavity from the abdomen

Asymptomatic

Absence of the ligament suspending the transverse colon

Chest X ray shows Chilaiditis sign

Portion of the colon is abnormally located ( interposed) bet. The liver and the diaphragm

Chilaiditis syndrome ( chilaiditis with symptoms )

Abdominal pain

constipation

Nausea & vomiting

Shortness of breath

anorexia

Small bowel obstruction

Acute pain r/t anatomical defect s/t chilaiditis syndrome

Constipation r/t interposed location of the colon

Risk for deficient fluid volume r/t excessive loss of fluids through normal route Risk for falls r/t impaired balance

Ineffective breathing pattern r/t anatomical defect

Imbalanced nutrition: less than body requirements r/t inability to ingest food due to anatomical abnormality

Air under the diaphragm

CT scan revealed a pleural effusion, left with secondary compressive atelectasis, chilaiditis syndrome

Simulate pneumoperitoneum

Respiratory distress

Ineffective tissue perfusion ( cardiopulmonary ) r/t interruption of blood flow s/t air under diaphragm
