The week ahead

People use language and arts to celebrate their culture and traditions. Unit of Inquiry As we tune into this unit, you will find your child asking questions about different celebrations in your familys lives and from their country. You can help them by showing them pictures, telling them stories and helping them research these celebrations specific to them. Language Arts This week we will be looking at Acrostic poems and students will make poems with some unit specific vocabulary and some spelling words. Students will also be looking at alphabetical order and reviewing the use of capital letters and full stops. Maths We begin by reviewing our addition and subtraction skills, including fact families, basic number bonds, problem solving and use of the hundred square.

As we do our best to stay Sun Safe here at R.I.S., please send your child to school with a hat and a water bottle (with his/her name on it) every day. If students arrive at school between 8-8.10am, students will be marked late by their homeroom teacher. After 8.10am, students will need to get a late slip from Miss Janene before going to class. Parents As Partners 1 Mr. David will run an information session for parents that are new to the PYP. It will take place at 8.15am on Wednesday 14th of September. Reminder that grade 2 students will be brought to the shaded area by the Senior dining hall on the pitch side at the end of the day to meet parents. This should ease congestion at the end of the day.

Reading tip of the week

Read me a story! Whether snuggled under the covers with peanut-butter sandwiches, or following along with a book on tape while on a road trip, reading together is a powerful tool in motivating your child to read.
