FUNCTIONS
MANAGEMENT PLAYS FIVE MAJOR FUNCTIONS IN AN ORGANIZATION. THE FUNCTIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS: 1. PLANNING. 2. ORGANIZING. 3. STAFFING. 4. LEADING. 5. CONTROLLING.

PLANNING
PLANNING IS THE PROCESS THAT INVOLVES DEFINING THE ORGANIZATIONAL GOALS , ESTABLISHING OVERALL STRATEGY FOR ACHIEVING THOSE GOALS .THERE ARE MAINELY FOUR PURPOSES OF PLANNING : PLANNING PROVIDES DIRECTION. REDUCE UNCERTAINITY .

MINIMIZES WASTES AND REDUNDANCY.


SET STANDREDS USED IN CONTROLLING.

ORGANIZING
ORGANIZING IS THE PROCESS OF CREATING AN ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE . IT

INVOLVES DETERMINING OF WHAT TO DO , WHEN TO DO , HOW TO DO AND HOW


THE TASKS ARE TO BE GROUPED. THE MAJOR PURPOSES OF ORGANIZING IS TO: DIVIDE WORK TO BE DONE INTO SPECIFIC JOBS AND DEPARTMENTS.

ASSIGN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES ASSOCIATED WITH INDIVIDUAL JOB.


CLUSTER JOBS INTO UNITS. ESTABLISH FORMAL LINE OF AUTHORITY. ALLOCATE AND DEPLOY

ORGANIZATIONAL RESOURCES.
ESTABLISH RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN INDIVIDUAL, GROUP AND DEPARTMENTS.

STAFFING
THE MANAGERIAL FUNCTIN OF STAFFING IS DEFINED AS FILLING AND KEEPING FILLED, POSITIONS IN THE ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE THIS IS DONE BY IDENTIFYING THE WORK FORCE REQUIREMENTS , INVENTROYING THE PEOPLE AVILABLE, AND RECRUITING, SELECTING , PLACING, PROMOTING ,APPRAISING, PLANNING THE CARRIER OF, COMPENSATING, AND TRAINING OR OTHERWISE DEVELOPING BOTH CANDIDATES AND CURRENT JOB HOLDERS SO THAT THEY CAN ACCOMPLISH THEIR TASKS EFFECTIVELY AND EFFICIENTLY . IT IS CLEAR THAT STAFFING MUST BE CLOSELY LINKED TO ORGANIZING, THAT IS, TO THE SETTING UP OF INTENTIONAL STRUCTURES OF ROLES AND POSITIONS.

LEADING
LEADING IS THE FUNCTION OF MANAGEMENT THAT INVOLVES MOTIVATING SUBORDINATES , INFLUENCING INDIVIDUAL OR TEAM AS THEY WORK, SELECTING MOST EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION CHENNEL , RESOLVING CONFLICTS. MAIN FUNCTIONAL AREAS UNDER LEADING ARE : TO HANDLE THE EMPLOYEE IN RIGHT WAY WHO APPEARS TO BE LOW IN MOTIVATION. SELECTING THE MOST EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP STYLE IN PARTICULAR SITUTATION . SELECTING THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY WHICH AFFECT THE WORKERS PRODUCTIVITY.
