People will always be on the move. INQUIRY INTO: Why people move How human movement has changed over time The impact of migration on communities KEY QUESTIONS: Why do people move? How and why has human movement changed over time? How does migration impact communities? KEY CONCEPTS: CAUSATION: Why is it like it is? CHANGE: How is it changing? KEY SKILLS: Research/inquiry skills using both print matter and IT skills Note-taking and recording information Interview skills Independently creating an extended non-chronological report ASSESSMENT: Individually produced research paper on student inquiry Presentation of individual inquiry Peer assessment using a rubric Written self-evaluation in portfolio Oral class brainstorming and on-going class shares

GRADE 5 SUBJECT SPECIFIC WORK MATHS:

On-going mental maths revision and extension activities (written/oral) PATTERN: Focus on number patterns: predicting, extending and explaining pattern rules, problem-solving NUMBER: Extend mental methods for +/-, revision and extension of +/- using numbers to 100,000, compare end order numbers to 100,000s and decimals to 2 decimal places (eg:1.2 is greater that 1.15), rounding whole numbers
