THE 11TH STATION: JESUS IS CRUCIFIED At the top of the cross on Mount Calvary, in great physical pain and

at the point of death, is Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews. There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side and Jesus between them. Even at the top of that Mountain where he was crucified, Christ forgave his executioners and promised eternal life to the repentant thief. If we can view the world where sickness, torment, agony, oppression and manipulation of the poor,

enslavement and subjugation of the masses, material emptiness and meaninglessness of life; a world where there are diversities of faith, of love and of moral perception; a world where it becomes truly a matter of grave concern that Christians are divided all for church leadership and administration, we shall stop moaning and lamenting the evils of this world. This would happen only if we redirect our directionlessness to the Crucified Christ who was sent by God the father as a healing balm to soothe ailing humanity. This healing, Christ brought on the cross which is the symbol of Gods love and it is upon the cross that the events of our salvation reached their climax. Hence, by virtue of sin, the world is sick and powerless, scattered and disbanded. But God sent his Son to suffer and die so that we might be drawn back from the path of destruction and live a life of virtue. What can we give Him in return? Are we really worth all these? Are we really ready to accept for the rest of our lives whatever problems that will come our way? He suffered to be our redeemer. Can we suffer to be a co-redeemer of this distressed and troubled world? However, there is hope for the world, for our country, for each and every one of us, if we can look beyond Calvary and embrace Christs promise of peace. Let us pray: Holy Mother! Piece us through, in our hearts each wound renew of our Saviour crucified, Amen. Akowe John-Duke Selime
