Film genre has changes over time, you can see this through the changes in narrative, audience

and technology. As audiences changes so does the genre. We now see many remakes of classic films and the use of hybrids with more than one genre to a film.

The horror genre has changed over the years because of many reasons. One of which is technology, they had very little animation and special effects to convey their stories. In the 40s-50s they relied on atmospheric events than special effects. In the 70s they started to rely more on visual effects. Many of the horror films today are remakes of classics. The last few year many horror films have become more physiological but still have a lot of blood and gore. Recently 3D has been introduced making horror films even more jumpy. My opinion I feel the horror genre has come more commercialised where most films focus more on blood than a good storyline.

In Romances the narrative structure has remained fairly consistent, involving the love interests who meet and their love blossoms, until there is a conflict where the couple are apart, until it is resolved and the film ends with a happily ever after style ending. There are also other narrative conventions that are usually seen within a romance to add to the story: A love triangle, which is normally part of the main conflict within the story An interfering authoritative character, such as a mother, or other opinionated family member The main female character is often strong willed, with even stronger friends or relations An accidental meeting between the love interests on the first or second meeting The story/ film has the ability to get the audience to feel involved by causing them to cry, or show other emotion towards characters

It has also changed to fit the audience over the years film have become more open about sex and sexuality as audiences are now less strict than in the past. Also hybrid is now very popular for example Rom-coms such as Love Actually widen the audience. Also many of The Bond films appeal to a wider audience because it is also action as well at romance.

This genre has become more popular with the growth of technology. Many futuristic films are enjoyed because people are interested in the nest technology.
