A Poem by Louis Fitch Sept.

28 2011

She took a breath and smelled the fragrance of the bouquet. The thought of the man that sent them to her, gave her hope of marriage some day. He was a soldier and had golden leaf cluster on his shoulders. It was of her concern that he would ask for her hand when she was older. In the warmer time of spring, he departed her company and went to battle. She remained in the country and assisted her father; she worked the fields and feed the cattle. Prosperity came to their farm the crops where bountiful and produced plenty. She received a letter from her Sutter; he had been wounded by an enemy sentry. With the letter she received a vase full of flowers, a note enclose brought little relief. It indicated she would soon receive a phone call ..it never came and she was disposed with grief.

A letter instead, it read he was a hero. I was his friend.. He loved you to the very end. This picture I send of him with a Smile; he said you loved flowers that have moved in the wind.
