    Installation Steps for Installing AIX 5.3 1. 2. 3. Boot Server from CD ROM.

    It prompts to press F1 + Enter to use server monitor as console. Next screen prompts for language selection, select 1 for English & press enter. 4. Next screen gives following options: a). Start / install with default setting. b). Change / show installation setting & install. c). Start maintenance mode for system recovery. 5. 6. Select (b) Change setting on next screen & start installation by selecting O and pressing enter. 7. Server now starts copying Base Operating System from CD ROM. It displays installation progress on server console. 8. After server reboots, configuration assistant will start with following options: a). Set or start system date & time. b). Set password for administrator (root user) c). Manage system storage & paging space. d). Configure network communications (TCP / IP). e). Update installed software after a migration installation. f). Configure Web based system manager to run in a web browser (Applet Mode).

    g). Configure online documentation & search. h). Exit the configuration assistant. 9. After completing above steps reboot the server.

    10. After server boots up again, insert OS update CD. 11. Run Smit Installp. 12. Select Install & update from latest available software. 13. Select List from next system. 14. Select /dev/CD0 from list & press OK. 15. Press OK on not screen to update OS. 16. After update is completed, come out from Smit. 17. Run oslevel r to confirm that OS level is updated. It will give output as 433-09. 18. Run Smit tcpip to configure second Ethernet adapter. 19. Select further configuration. 20. Select Network Interfaces. 21. Select Network Interface Selection 22. Select Change / Show characteristics of a Network interface. 23. Select en1. 24. Enter IP address & subnet mask and change current state to up & press OK. 25. Exit SMIT.
