Introduction & Definition

Life on earth is possible only due to atmosphere. It

is an envelope of air around the earth.
Layers of Atmosphere

•Troposphere
•Stratosphere
•Mesosphere
•Inosphere
•Exosphere
Layers of Atmosphere
Composition of Air
• Air is a mixture of gases.Amount of different
gases in air is :
• Nitrogen : 78 %
• Oxygen : 21 %
• Organ : 0.94 %
• CO 2 : 0.03 %
• Hydrogen : 0.01 %
• Others : 0.02 %
Composition of Air
Weather and Temperature

Short term atmospheric conditions of a

place is called weather.It includes
temperature,air pressure,clouds and
humidity.
Temperature

• Temperature means the heat present in

the air.It determines the weather of a
place. It goes on increasing or
decreasing. It varies from place to place
and time to time
Factors Affecting Temperature

1. Latitudes ,
2. Height from the sea level,
3. Distance from the sea ,
4. Type of surface ,
5. Nature of slop,
6. Clouds and Rainfall and Ocean Currents are
the main factors that effect temperature.
Latitudes

• Temperature near the equator almost

remains high while near poles it remains
almost low.
Height from the sea level

• Temperature
decreases when
we go upward
from the sea level.
Distance from the sea

• Temperature near seas and

oceans remains moderate
while in the areas away from
the seas it is usually high in
summers and low in the
winters.
Nature of land
»Temperature remains low
if land is covered with
snow or vegetation and it
is high if it is bare.
Nature of slope

• If the slope of land is facing the

sun temperature will be high if it
is not the temperature will be
comparatively low.
Rainfall
»If sky is
covered with
clouds
temperature
will be low and
after rain it
also goes
down.
Ocean Currents
• Warm ocean currents increases
the temperature of the coastal
areas while cold currents
decreases the temperature of the
coastal areas.
