COMPLAINT
The Plaintiffs, SHRINERS HOSPITALS FOR CHILDREN and THE IMPERIAL
COUNCIL OF THE ANCIENT ARABIC ORDER OF THE NOBLES OF THE MYSTIC
SHRINE FOR NORTH AMERICA, sue the Defendants JAMES VERNON HILL and
CHARITY WATCH CENTER, INC., and allege as follows:
1. This is an action for money damages for defamation.
2. Plaintiff, Shriners Hospitals for Children (“Shriners Hospitals”), is a Colorado,
non-profit charitable corporation which is headquartered in Tampa, Florida. Shriners Hospitals
operates 22 Shriners hospitals throughout North America, Canada and in Mexico City. Since
1922, Shriners Hospitals has spent over seven billion dollars providing expert medical care to
children, all without charging anything to the children receiving the medical care. In 2006,
Shriners Hospitals will spend $1.7 million per day providing medical care to children without
charge. Members of Shrine Temples raise money which is used to provide free medical care to
children in Shriners hospitals. There are 191 Shrine Temples.
