FAMILY HEALTH RECORD

The family is a primary unit in all societies. Family is a group of biologically

& blood related individuals who live together & eating from common kitchen.

There are three types of family:

1. Nuclear family
2. Joint family
3. Three generation family.

Our patient’s family is nuclear type of family.

IMPORTANCE OF FAMILY HEALTH RECORD:

- As defined above in family all person are related to each other by
biological/blood relation. Hypertension has shown polygenic
inheritance and parents having hypertension raise chances of
hypertension in their children.

- Family members also live in same shelter so exposure to stress &

other environment condition is same for all.

- Common kitchen doesn’t show that all members having same diet but
in India where family have common food in their group. So patient’s
family members have same food as of patient. So diet which may be
risk of Hypertension can lead to Hypertension in other members.

- So to understand role of family factors & to know the health status of

each family “family health record” is necessary. So it should be
recorded. By these way we can know about family members who are
at risk & we can prevent Hypertension or other disease in them by
giving proper guidance.
