HISTORY

Pakistan Television Corporation Limited (PTV) is a public limited company. All its shares are held by Government of Pakistan.

The decision to establish a general purpose television service with the participation of private capital and under the general supervision of the Government of Pakistan was taken in October 1963.

Subsequently the GOP signed an agreement with Nippon Electronic Company of Japan, allowing it to operate two pilot stations in Pakistan. The first of these stations went on air in Lahore on 26 November 1964.

On the completion of the experimental phase, a private limited company, called Television Promoters Limited was set up in 1965 which was converted into a public limited company in 1967. Television centres were established in Karachi and Rawalpindi/Islamabad in 1967 and in Peshawar and Quetta in 1974. Ptv satellite transmission is round the clock. The transmission include ETV and PTV world transmission.

PRODUCTION FACILITIES

Production facilities of Pakistan Television are spread over five centres located at Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Peshawar and Quetta.

These centres have a huge network of professional studios equipped with cutting edge technology.

All the centres are fully capable of covering live events of any magnitude, producing dramas, musical shows, news bulletins and a rich variety of entertainment and infotainment programs, with the help of state-of-the-art Cameras, ENG units, OB Vans and latest Light and Sound facilities.

PTV ACADEMY

PTV Academy is an effective platform to train producers, engineers, cameramen, designers, makeup artists, anchorpersons and technicians. PTV Academy also offers refresher courses and updating of knowledge base at various levels in the following areas: - Programmes Production - Engineering - Info - Tech

PTV Family

PTV -1 established in 1964, changed its name to PTVHome in August 01, 2007, this channel is the flag bearer of the Corporation. It maintains the traditional look and perceptions of the Corporation. Programming on this channel comprises of Entertainment, Education and Information segments.

Established in 1992 as Educational Television and renamed as PTV World in 1998. Finally again repositioned as PTV News in August 01, 2007.

PTV Global was launched in 2006. It started its transmission for USA on April 22, 2006 and for UK on April 02, 2007. It is available on Dish Network in USA and on BSKYB in UK. PTV Global beam its transmission from Islamabad, Pakistan on Asia Sat.-3s and is available in more than fifty countries of Asia, Africa, Europe, America and Australia.

PTV Global take pride in delivering programmes of quality and morality. PTV Global boasts an array of original programmes across a range of entertainment genres, drama, sitcom, comedy, action, thriller, youth shows, lifestyle, cookery, light Pop and classical music and programmes from PTV archives.
