    in which the spirit of revolt gripped a large number of people in the Punjab. His father Kishan Singh was in the Lahore Central Jail that day for launching an agitation against legislation modifying Canal Colony tenures and raising canal rates in the Bari Doab.An uncle,Ajit Singh, whowas in prison in Mandalay then,was,by all accounts,a remarkable figure.
