Science Center: Insect Detective

Ms. Bethells Second Grade Class This center may be done with a partner or individually. This center should take you 20 minutes to complete, if you finish earlier that is fine. Remember to take your time to do a good job, and make sure your answers are correct. You may use your notes on Insects, if you need to. Please be quiet during this science center! Good luck being an Insect Detective! The material that you will need to complete your science center assignment is listed below. All the materials are in the material bucket. If you cannot find a material, please inform your teacher of the missing material as soon as possible. The two worksheets that you will need are in the BIG YELLOW FOLDER, labeled Insect Detective. Take only one of each worksheet, if you make a mistake please inform the teacher that you need another worksheet. Materials: 12 different bugs (insects, and non-insects) worksheet Scissors Glue stick T column worksheet

Directions:
1. Cut out each bug picture using the scissors in the material bucket.

2. There will be two categories on the T column worksheet: Insects and Non-insects. 3. On the T column worksheet glue each bug picture under the correct category, using the glue stick in the material bucket. Under the Non-insects category explain why that bug is not an insect, under the picture.

4. For example, a worm is not an insect, because it has no legs. 5. Turn in the work sheet into the turn in basket. 6. Please return all materials back to the material basket and clean up your mess.
