Location Observations
Glacier National Park • Attractions: Glacier shaped terrain and
shaped bedrock as well as smaller glaciers
from the day when they were prominent
in the area.
• Resources: Trees, hiking trails, minerals
carried by the glaciers.
• The area is home to over 70 different
species of mammals and various plants,
and if the area was not protected it would
be used as someone’s resort or large
home, most likely unavailable to the
public.
Yellowstone National Park • Attractions: Geysers, including Old
Faithful, vast forest, hiking, and grizzly
bears.
• Resources: Sulfur
• The area is home to various wildflowers
and some endangered species. If the area
were not protected, the abundance of
species there would have been threatened
with no protected area to live.
Grand Canyon National Park • Attractions: Large canyon (hmmm…),
Colorado river, rock layers in the canyon
walls.
• Resources: Minerals and rocks.
• If the area were not protected, the canyon
walls would be at risk for human-caused
erosion on the walls, which could quickly
tear the walls. If someone bought the
land, it could possibly have been made
unavailable to the public.
Carlsbad Caverns National Park • Attractions: Large caves
• Resources: Caves, limestone, research
and exploration, wilderness, various
plants and animals.
• If the area were not protected, the caves
would have possibly collapsed, ruining the
immense area of exploration, and the area
could have been used as a mine for
limestone, which would result in the quick
destruction of the caves.
Everglades National Park • Attractions: Large marshy area, large
river, and subtropical climate that consists
of an annual rhythm of drought, fire,
sunshine and torrential rain.
• Wildlife: American Alligators, West Indian
Manatee, Florida Panther.
• If the area were not protected, the vast
area of land, which is the only type of its
kind in the world, would have possibly
dried out and become like the surrounding
land, wiping out the unique endangered
species that depend on the area.
White Sands National Park • Attractions: Vast desert climate and
landscape of white colored sand.
• Resources: Gypsum.
