November-December To Apply Apply to the schools on your final list Most deadlines are between January 1 and February 15, but its better to apply by December 1! Keep copies of everything you send. Print application if completed online. Ask Ms. Adamick for a transcript request form. If you are under 18, have your parent or guardian sign the form and return it to the counselors office If you are 18, you can sign yourself Follow up with any college that youve applied to. Ask if there are any other forms needed to process your application. Attend the College Info Night on November 7 for information about financial aid, A+, timelines, and transitioning.

To Pay Apply for a FAFSA PIN at pin.ed.gov. You need one and one of your parents will also need one. Talk to you parents about how youll finance your education. Go to www.fafsa4caster.ed.gov for an estimate of how much federal student aid youll qualify for. Check with each college to see if a separate scholarship application is required.

January To Apply Mail the LAST of your applications. Follow up with every college where youve applied to see if any further documents are needed. Sign up for the February ACT if necessary.

To Pay Gather the documents that youll need to file your FAFSA. You can find the list of necessary documents at www.fafsa.gov or in Miss Samples office. If you havent done so already, register for your FAFSA PIN.

February-March To Apply Take the February ACT. Sign up for the April ACT if necessary. The deadline is March 9.

To Pay File your FAFSA at www.fafsa.gov! April 1st is the deadline for financial aid in the state of Missouri, but many schools have financial aid deadlines in February and March. If you miss these deadlines, you could miss out on your share of free money in the form of grants. Ask your parents to file their taxes early if they usually wait until April. If they cannot file their taxes earlier, they can use their 2009 income tax returns to file. If the 2009 tax returns are used, you will need to correct the information when the 2010 returns are complete; however, it is better to use old information and correct it later than to miss then deadline. Call Miss Sample at 573-729-5990 with questions or for help filing. Attend the FAFSA Frenzy at SBU-Salem for help filing. Apply for local scholarships starting in March. Ms. Hurt, the senior counselor, will give you an application to file with each of the local organizations. Dont miss these deadlines. Local scholarships are some of the easiest scholarships to get because the applicant pool is so small!

April-May To Pay Mid-April, expect to receive your financial aid package from each college where youve applied. Accept or decline the financial aid package offered to you by the school. Apply for summer work. Try to find work or an internship in the area youll study in college. This is a great resume builder.

To Attend Ensure all of your housing and enrollment forms are complete and submitted. Choose the college youll attend by May 1. Inform the college of your choice about your plans for enrollment. Follow their instructions for your next steps. Inform all other colleges that you applied to of your plans to enroll elsewhere. After graduation, have your final transcripts sent to the college youll attend.
