Bio-ethanol advantages

- Exhaust gases of ethanol are much cleaner. It burns more cleanly (more complete combustion).

- You can use any plant for production of bioethanol, it only has to contain sugar and starch. - It's is carbon neutral, the carbon dioxide released in the bio-ethanol production process is the same amount as the one the crops previously absorbed during photosynthesis. - Positive energy balance. The output of energy during the production is more than the input.

- The usage of ethanol or fuel-flexible engines will reduce the emission of carbon compounds by 80% and the one of CO2 by 30%. Ethanol-blended fuel as E10 (10% ethanol and 90% gasoline) reduces greenhouse gases by up to 3.9%.

Bio-ethanol disadvantages - During the production process of bio-ethanol a huge amount of carbon dioxide is released which makes its ecological effectiveness close to zero. - The production of ethanol fills the air with greenhouse gases (GHG). - The energy content of the petrol is much higher than the one of bio-ethanol. - The octane number of bio-ethanol is at around 105. that means this substance can be burned in the engines with much higher compression ratio. - Transportation ethanol is hygroscopic, it means that it absorbs water from the air and thus has high corrosion aggressiveness. Thats why it is transported only by auto transport or railroad. - Growing crops for ethanol will affect agriculture. The country can suffer from food shortage as the ethanol fuel is produced by harvested crops. that can cause greater environmental problems. - Ethanol production
