New Heavens & New Earth

The Millennium?
(Isa. 65:17-24)

What are the “New Heavens & New Earth” described in Isaiah? (Isa. 65:17)

Heavens/Universe - Heb. Shamayim (Grk. cosmos)

Earth/World - Heb. ‘erets (Grk. ghay)

Create - Heb. bara’

New/Fresh - Heb. chadash

Could the “Heavens” & “Earth” represent beings? (2 Cor. 5:17)

What was destroyed in Noah’s time? (Gen. 6:1-8, 2 Pe. 3:5-7)

During the Millennium, will the old be replaced with an entirely new creation (Lat. ex nihilo) like in Gen. 1:1,
2:1-4 (see also Isa. 45:18) or just purified/renewed? (Isa. 49:8, Matt. 19:28)

If purified, from what? (Job 15:15, Isa. 13:9-13, 24:1-6, Prov. 10:30, Acts 3:21; Rom. 8:18-25)

If purified/renewed, how? (Heb. 9:22-23)

The “Heavens & Earth” will “perish” at some future time (Isa. 24:19-20, 51:6, Ps. 102:25-26, Matt 24:29-31 &
35, Mark 13:31, Luke 21:33, 2 Pe. 3:7, 10–13; 1 John 2:17, Rev. 21:1-7) (Contrast: Ps. 104:5, Ecc. 1:4)

Is this a reason to fear? (Ps. 37:10-11 & 29, Joel 3:16, Matt. 5:5, 25:34, Heb. 12:26-28)

Note: the new heavens and earth is a popular theme in Jewish Pseudepigrapha, (1 Enoch 45:4; 72:1; 91:16;
Jubilees 1:29; 2 Baruch 32:6; 44:12; 57:2; 4 Ezra 7:75)

Former Things Not Remembered (Isa. 65:17)

What former things?

Why not remember?

No More Tears (Isa. 65:19, Rev. 21:4)

Restoration of Long Life (Isa. 65:20, 66:2)

But not yet eternal life. Death, the "last enemy" (1 Cor. 15:26) is not destroyed till after Satan's rebellion at the
end of the Millennium (Isa. 25:8, Rev. 20:7-14, 21:4)

Enjoy Fruits of Own Labor (Isa. 65:21-22)

Immediate Response from God (Isa. 65:24)

How? (Rom. 8:26)
